Nita Umashankar

Nita Umashankar is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Nita’s interest in helping marginalized women and children began when she spent some time in India and noticed that a highly vulnerable population included women and children living in poverty. After spending time talking with impoverished women who were largely responsible for the welfare of their families, she learned of the overwhelmingly large sex trade and trafficking industry. Upon returning to the United States, Nita told her parents about the situation and as a family, they started the ASSET India Foundation.
